All articles Close

The Southwest Roadrunners Travel Club gathered at the Oasis in chilly Las Vegas for their annual Winter Rally and business meeting from January 30 – February 3, 2023. After registration and getting set up on Monday, everyone enjoyed the annual ice cream social hosted by Van City Las Vegas. In all, 85 LTVs were registered.

Tuesday, January 31, started with the ever-popular Tech Talk, hosted by Gordon Dupris, in the Ballroom. This was a morning of information sharing about the operation of our coaches. Besides a very comprehensive PowerPoint presentation, there was a Q&A discussion that covered a myriad of topics from the participants. In the afternoon, there were several smaller group seminars. Topics included solo women travelers, trip and rally planning, favorite products to enhance your LTV experience, and many others. After all this, everyone was ready for a happy hour to relax before dinner.

The annual business meeting was held on Wednesday morning, and the results of the election of officers were announced. This year we tried a new format in which the elections were held with an online vote before the meeting. The officers to be elected included Club Leader (Towney Sausville), Assistant Club Leader (Gordon Dupris), and Treasurer (Kirk Kearl). This format for club elections was successful and more efficient than the previous one, and we will continue to use it. Other matters of business were also discussed. In the afternoon, our guest from Winkler, Don Klassen, talked to the group and answered questions from the participants. In the evening, everyone enjoyed movie night. The featured film was The Long, Long Trailer with Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball. Because of the cold, it was shown in the Event Center rather than outside Casablanca Commons.

Thursday was the day for fun and relaxation; after all, the business was finished. In the afternoon, the second annual putt-putt golf tournament was held. There were three flights, and the winners were awarded valuable prizes. The winners included Kirk Kearl and Tai Taitano.

The paint and sip event, which featured a beautiful desert scene with a Roadrunner, was conducted by the artists of Pinot’s Palette from Henderson. The participants each came home with a beautiful, unique painting for their coach or home. The results were amazing, considering that people sipped as they created! The paint and sip event was followed by a farewell pizza party.

Then came Friday. Everyone said their goodbyes and agreed to meet again next year at the Oasis. Be sure to save the dates: January 29 – February 2, 2024. Details will be announced soon to members via e-mail and on our website.
