“There is never enough counter space, so I cut a piece of 5-ply maple plywood to match the dimensions of the top kitchen drawer. I routed out a rabbit on all four underside perimeter edges of the board, so that when placed on the drawer it would be low enough to clear the cabinet frame. This enables the drawer to close and at the same time for the counter top to be “trapped” on top of the drawer, so that it can’t slide off when the drawer is opened or closed. The counter just lifts off for easy access to the contents of the drawer. Eventually I plan to replace it with a piece of Corion routed the same way.”
