In the space of a short afternoon drive, you’ll leave behind the dry and rocky landscape of the Arizona desert and climb through the grasslands to the boreal forest (complete with snow in the winter!) at the summit of Mount Lemmon. The changes in climate (about twenty degrees) and vegetation are striking, and you’ll experience the transition in minutes rather than the hours or days it would take driving north.

Scenic Drive Tips

There are many parking areas along the route for taking photos or for hiking. Summerhaven is a small village with a couple of places to have a beverage before starting your descent.
