Trail Start and End Details

There are many places to jump on the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail from within Anchorage; however, starting from downtown Anchorage will provide the best experience, and from here the trail can be followed to a logical conclusion at Kincaid Park Chalet.

Description and Tips

This is a paved, winding, and often busy trail with runners, bikers, walkers, rollerbladers, and an occasional skier on roller skis. The trail winds through miles of coastal plain, with many stops for viewing Cook Inlet and the Alaska Range directly across the Inlet. The entire length of the trail is paved and includes mile markers, pull-outs, and picnic tables. It’s an easy-to-moderate ride that includes a substantial climb from the coast to the Kincaid Park Chalet near the very end. Expect to see moose, cranes, and waterfowl. Prepare for wet conditions and shaded trail, with resulting cool temperatures.
