Description and Tips

This trail wanders gently through forest, past beaver a beaver dam, and parallels Eagle River as part of the Alaska Parks system. The trail is clearly marked and easy to identify. We also recommend using a bear bell when walking this trail as we came face to face with a young brown bear while taking a leisurely hike on it on one of our trips. The bear bell worked well and succeeded in making sure the bear knew where we were so that it could easily avoid us. It was fascinating to see a bear in the wild. It is such a beautiful and majestic animal. We also saw a beaver dam over a stream and listened to various birds in the area. I highly recommend this trail for an easy hike to enjoy the beauty of Alaska. Be sure and check on bear activity with the Alaska State Parks and Outdoor Recreation Department before you drive to the Eagle River Nature Center. The park is periodically closed to hiking due to bear activity.

This trail is in Denali National Park. It can be accessed at the Mountain Vista Parking lot or the Savage River Parking lot. It is a one way trail that goes from the Mountain Vista area to the Savage River. The Savage River side is a steep climb up steps cut into the rock, and affords stunning vistas of Denali National Park. Access from the Mountain Vista side is more gradual. You can park at either end and hike the entire trail, then take a shuttle bus back to your starting point, or hike a couple of miles along the park road to return to your vehicle.

The parking lot for the Savage River Loop Hiking Trail is 12 miles from the park entrance within Denali National Park. You can park your LTV within steps of the trail. Parking is free but fills up by mid-morning on beautiful days. Round trip on the Savage River Loop Hiking Trail is 1.7 miles and relatively level. While hiking on the Savage River Loop Trail, you see and hear the roaring Savage River. You may see a Spectacled Eider duck on the Savage River and nesting ptarmigan with their chicks in the brush and willow bushes along the river. Birders have the opportunity to scope for many species of birds in and around willow bushes. Photographers and artists have dozens of wildflowers to draw or photograph. As you hike any part of the Savage River Trail you have the opportunity to see and hear caribou, moose, pika, marmot, ground squirrels, fox, etc. on the mountainous tundra. Grizzly bears are also a possibility but primarily in early spring.

The slow start on the 4 km access road is rewarded with incredible 360 degree views at Boulder Pass over Baker Lake and remote Banff National Park. The pass resembles it's name with huge boulders and cliffs, and often the hoary marmots will whistle and skitter about as you walk by. This in-and-back hike is a part of the larger Skoki loop and is also the start of the hike to Skoki Lodge - a national historic backcountry lodge with amazing hospitality. If you want to avoid hiking the fire road, book a few nights at Skoki and the shuttle will take you the first 4 km.

This trail is for fit people looking for a full day out in the mountains. While it is described as a point-to-point hike which would require two vehicles or a shuttle, those wishing to do an out-and-back would be advised to start at the South end (Ribbon creek). Starting from the North end (Pigeon), you walk gradually uphill through forest for just over 6 km before the views open up. A short distance later you reach a ridge top that can be followed all the way to the high point, at over 2,800 meters. Pick a clear day and this trail will not disappoint. Be aware the grades are steep at times with some easy scramble sections, loose rock and scree.

This loop is a small part of the huge trail system just outside of Edmonton, Alberta at Blackfoot/Cooking Lake Provincial Park. It's a peaceful yet accessible reprieve from the city hustle, and a perfect day trip from the Edmonton area. Trails are wide and slightly hilly, and take you through forests and marsh. Winter brings groomed cross country skiing and some designated snowshoe trails. Enjoy fire pits and day shelters at the staging areas.

This is a different interpretation if hiking. The Unity MB with the tall storage compartment — or the Wonder TB with the garage — make it ideal for being able to take along a collapsible mobility scooter. This makes some of the hiking trails accessible to allow people with difficulty walking a chance to experience less challenging trails, such as the one that is found in Jasper National Park at the Maligne Canyon. The trail that is accessible starts from the parking lot to Bridge 1, then Bridge 2 and back to the parking lot. The trail itself has a few interesting rock outcrops that may be challenging for some, but with a mobility scooter (like the collapsible Travelscoot) it becomes a trail that can be used to see how the Maligne River and the numerous waterfalls have carved a path down the solid rock.

This is a moderate hike with big rewards! It starts slowly up a fire road, but climbs gradually through the valley and up and over over Nigel Pass. There is a river crossing after the pass at Brazeau River (the bridge can be washed out). Views are outstanding. If you like, there are backcountry campsites at Boundary Creek or Four Points that can be booked with Jasper National Park. This hike is a part of the larger multi-day Brazeau Loop but can be done in and back as a day trip.

Nestled in the Selkirk mountain range near Revelstoke (B.C.), this trail is part of unique hiking experience. First, because you don't start from the valley in the morning, but from a lodge at 6,500 feet. This means you are within high mountains from your very first stride, and don't need to climb much to enjoy the scenery. Second, only the few guests at the MSE lodge walk in the area, because this network of trails is too far to reach from the roads. Hard to find more peaceful trails. Only accessible by helicopter, with 2 departures per week. You can choose an all inclusive stay (accommodation, meals and guided hikes if you wish) for 3, 4 or 7 days.

This is a classic hike, so if you are in the area, you must do this one. It starts off through the forest, then switch backs. It starts with some light rock-walking, then arrives at a ridge for a photo opportunity. Doing Goldie locks counter clock wise is the best way to go. Early in the season (June) there can be some snow. Tip: You can easily drive your LTV on a non-paved forestry road and park at the lodge; arrive there before 9AM then there is still parking space.

Not for the faint of heart! This challenging hike rewards you with a fantastic view of metro Vancouver and beyond. With over 2,800 steps, make sure your legs are prepared. Lots of parking at the base, with numerous RV parking spots. The base of the Skyride has restrooms and a Starbucks, as well as a few gift shops. Be sure to pay a visit to the grizzlies at the top! Dogs are not permitted on the trail or at the summit of Grouse Mountain.

Jocelyn Hill loop is a beautiful mountain trail, with most of the elevation gains gradual/moderate. The occasional section has quick elevation gains, but the trail is well-marked and well-maintained, so it is easy to navigate. Much of the trail is through fresh West coast forest, so it is enjoyable to do anytime of year. Rocky outcrops are easy to navigate, and lead to the highlights of the hike. The gems of the hike are the stunning viewpoints along the way. Views of Finlayson Arm inlet, the city of Victoria, Mount Finlayson and the expansive views towards Washington State across the Juan de Fuca Strait are awe-inspiring. Not to be missed!

A beautiful, moderate trail set mainly in a West Coast forest of cedar, arbutus, fir and oak trees. The well-established and well-marked trail is on a combination of forest floor and rocky outcrops. The gem of the trail is the view from the summit — a stunning panorama of city of Victoria, Mount Finlayson, Bear Mountain and across the Juan de Fuca Strait to Washington State. Not to be missed.

This hike is 1 that has challenges as well as beautiful scenery! It's best taken in the fall which is when all the trees look the best. Because this trail is all dirt, it's not recommended to walk it after rain. A portion of this loop goes through the golf course and some residential streets. When walking through the residential streets, make sure to look at the map to know where to turn. The whole loop ends with quite the trek up a hill and it's tiring on a hot day. Overall this loop is beautiful and has a few benches dotted along the trail to stop in case you need some rest.

A difficult hike on Meares Island accessible only via water taxi, Lone Cone Trail winds its way up an old cinder cone. In addition, the Gaspésie National Park has recently decided to open the access road during the winter, making this trail an excellent snowshoe (or hiking boots when the snow is packed, as it is often the case) walk for everyone.
