Finally, after a long period of restrictions to travel due to COVID-19, we cautiously held our first rally on June 15, 2021. Some of the 21 LTV units arrived early, but the majority were present by evening. Several of our group from British Columbia still had restrictions in place, and could not attend. The evening was spent meeting others in our group, and sharing memories and stories.
On Wednesday some folks toured the area around Drumheller on their own. The main event was a group bike ride, with some on e-bikes (reviewed by many as to what to choose). The destination was the Royal Tyrrell Museum, riding along the Red Deer River on paved trails. After returning to camp, another trip went the other direction on trails through town along the river. Then we returned to camp, with a stop at the World’s Largest Dinosaur, and had a treat of ice cream.
On Thursday, there were more people independently touring and another bicycle trip, this time to Last Chance Saloon in Wayne, Alberta. This trip took most of the day and was approximately 25 km, crossing 11 bridges on the final leg. While there, we had lunch at the hotel.
Some folks who stayed around camp helped each other with tools, repairs, and setting up some challenging electronic systems in the newer units. The highlight of the evening was socializing and consuming 14 pizzas and some watermelon to close the day.
Friday was departure day, and we all took apart our setup LTVs to travel to the next destination. For some it was home, some headed to other locations, and many headed towards the next rally in Saskatchewan. After saying our goodbyes, we all hopefully made a safe journey to the next location.
