The Pacific Northwest offers a plethora of RV destinations with some of the most beautiful places in the country. The Evergreen Leisures have always capitalized on this with rallies in places like Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Sisters, Oregon, plus with this year the “Almost Fall” Rally in Port Townsend, Washington.

On August 25, 48 LTVs took over Point Hudson RV Park to celebrate three days of fun, friends, food, and frivolity. Located on the shores of the Salish Sea, the stunning views offered a 180-degree vista of cruise ships, sunset sailboat races, and incredible wildlife viewing. Another feature of this location was the easy access to historic downtown Port Townsend with restaurants, shops, and galleries.

Early the first morning, we were spoiled by Micky from Johnson RV, who demonstrated that he’s not only an RV salesman but an excellent chef as well. He single-handedly made 100 breakfast burritos for all to enjoy. Over the next two days, Johnson RV made themselves available to answer questions and make minor adjustments to anyone’s rig that needed help.

Of course, these days, e-bikes and LTVs go hand-in-hand, so almost 40 of us took off on an 18-mile (29-kilometer) bike ride from the water’s edge through forests to farmlands and back. The ride ended in the boatyard, with everyone smiling from ear to ear.

As with bikes, LTVs and dogs go hand-in-paw, so each morning, a group of 30 or more people and pooches walked along the beach and through the pretty uptown neighborhoods taking in the sights and sharing stories.

Being one of only three Victorian seaports in the US, history plays an important role in this destination, so a group was treated to a historic downtown walking tour to learn about the earliest people, settlers, and buildings constructed when Port Townsend aspired to be the “New York of the West.”

Then there was the food! Did we say food?!! The weekend culminated Saturday night with an old-fashioned summer barbecue complete with burgers, hot dogs, watermelon, and all the fixin’s. The finale was a large cake boasting an aerial photo of the park, which, by the way, was delicious. But, of course, in true LTV fashion, people brought salads and desserts to add to the yummy fare.

For the last few years, our member Dan Taylor, woodworker extraordinaire, has provided handcrafted cutting boards for LTV sinks. These amazing works of art inspire everyone to wait anxiously for their name to be called during the raffle. In fact, some people attend the rally just for a chance to win one of these! As a special treat for everyone, he gave away four of these precious prizes.

For those who stayed an extra day, we indulged in the Tim Wickham “after party.” The esteemed former leader made his famous paella, and other members contributed by bringing sides and additional delicacies. It was simply amazing.

In addition to our thanks to the folks at Johnson RV, we’d like to also express our thanks to the Wagon Masters who made this all possible: Jim and Christina, Norm and Elaine, and Randy and Beth. A fantastic weekend was had by all, and everyone is looking forward to our next adventure at the Old Mill RV Park in Garibaldi, Oregon, June 1-4, 2023.

The Top Rally Lessons Learned:

  • Check the Evergreen Leisures Facebook page frequently to find out what’s happening.
  • Make RV reservations for next year’s rallies as soon as the parks open reservations.
  • Our fellow LTV travelers always provide fresh ideas and new ways of looking at things.
