About
Best inland lake campground in the state. All sand bottom that is wadeable 200 years offshore.
Campground Tips
Higgins Lake South State Park is older; hence, the sites are far closer together. North State Park sites are nicely spaced, and both beaches are great. There is a move afoot to potentially bring on-site water/sewer to all Michigan State Parks, but that is quite an investment.
Nearby Attractions
Trout Fishing on Au Sable River, mostly catch-release, B&B pontoon rentals on Higgins, trails at Hartwick Pines SP a few minutes north. Goodale’s Bakery Grayling, Fifth Street Market Roscommon, Beechwood Restaurant Roscommon for outstanding chef-prepared breakfasts, lunch and brunch, and hiking trails around Marl Lake. Bowling at Fred’s Roscommon, movies at Pines Theater Houghton Lake
