The Southwest LTV Roadrunners Travel Club held its fall pre-rally and Rally in Tucson, Arizona, in October 2024.
Some participants met at the pre-rally at the Catalina State Park north of Tucson from October 11 – 14. Five coaches boondocked at the Ringtail Loop, where the Pre-rally meeting spot was, but the rest chose to stay in the serviced campsites because it was so hot. During the day, people hiked and biked or visited nearby local sites. In the evening, people visited and watched the local wildlife (Javalinas were especially numerous), and a few lucky souls saw the comet! The pre-rally was a chance to relax, meet new friends, and renew old friendships.
October 14 – 18
The Southwest LTV Roadrunners gathered for their fall rally at the Tucson Lazy Days KOA Resort in south Tucson. 45 coaches participated, and several local Tucson LTV owners joined us for the programs and activities.
After registration and checking in, everyone gathered at the central meeting area for our first happy hour of the rally. The Sonoran Hot Dog Truck visited and fed us a Tucson specialty: a Sonoran Hot Dog.
While eating, we participated in getting-to-know-you activities before turning in for the night.
Tuesday was unstructured during the day. Some people just hung around camp and visited, and others explored sites around the area. Many participated in a 16-mile group bike ride along the Loop, a bike route that had a destination at the downtown Tucson San Augustine Mercade—the day ended with happy hours at several sites.
Wednesday, October 16, began with a catered Tucson famous burrito breakfast followed by a Tech Talk with guest speakers from Mercedes-Benz of Tucson Sprinter Service. Those guest speakers included Shop Manager Ramon Sanchez and Shop Foreman Timothy McKinnley. We also finished the morning with a Q&A tech talk by Towney.
In the afternoon, many Roadrunners participated in a tour of local breweries. We visited several local sites, including Dragoon Brewing Company, where we had a tour of the brewery and tasting, and Barrio, where we had dinner. Several carloads continued the tour and the rest went back to the KOA to have a late happy hour.
Thursday was a free day for sightseeing, visiting, and hanging around camp. People shared information about their coaches and travel stories, and a few of the ladies had a book discussion of favorite reads.
The rally ended with a delicious dinner catered by Boca Tacos, prepared by one of Tucson’s top local chefs, Maria Mazon (vegan options were available). After we ate, there was a drawing for LTV swag, and everyone could go away with a souvenir.
The Rally ended on Friday, October 18. We will gather again in February at the Oasis in Las Vegas for the annual winter rally and general meeting. See you there!
