Our rally took place with colorful fall foliage as a backdrop on the shores of spectacular Lake Champlain in South Hero, Vermont, at Apple Island Resort.
The rally was to start on Friday, September 25th, but we had 6 coaches come in on Thursday. A total of 19 coaches attended – 14 Unity, 2 Wonder, 1 Serenity, and 2 Class B Freedom. The LTVs came from 7 states, some nearby and one as far away as New Jersey. It was interesting that the majority of the attendees had never experienced an RV rally, and were learning how easy it is to meet new friends and gain valuable information from other members.
We were blessed with almost perfect weather to enjoy our time in South Hero, which is actually a bridged island on beautiful Lake Champlain, located in the Champlain Valley at the base of the Green Mountains. Daytime temps were in the 70s and overnight lows around 60; the only negative at times was a strong breeze from the south, but I have to say that breeze was welcomed on a warm afternoon while playing golf or biking.
The rally’s organized activities included a Friday evening meet-and-greet happy hour, with a surprise musical performance by one of our members, Mary Hickman, who played her guitar and sang songs for us – a nice addition to our campfire happy hour. On Saturday morning, there were informal gatherings at the meeting site; campers brought their own beverage and shared the provided pre-packaged breakfast treats. Saturday evening was a pizza and campfire gathering. During the day, some attendees got together to take advantage of our wonderful location and went biking, which is a popular activity in this part of Vermont. Others went to a local winery to sample the wine while taking in the beautiful views of the valley that was spread out before them. There were some who played golf at the fun but challenging on-site par-3 course. Our next rally, with more time to plan, will include more organized activities and discussions.
On Sunday morning, we gathered to discuss future events and rallies, and everyone seemed eager to have another rally in the spring. Most of the group left on Sunday, however, 6 coaches stayed another day to further enjoy the accommodations at the resort.
I hope the ride home was as enjoyable to all as it was for us. The fall colors on the mountains were as brilliant as we have ever seen, probably brought on by the unusually dry summer here in the northeast. I thought Marilyn would wear out her camera, trying in vain to capture the beauty. We would like to thank Apple Island Resort for working with us to make our stay very enjoyable, I’m sure we will be back again. We also would like to thank LTV for their generous support in making events like this possible. And a big thank you to one of our members, Ed Huff, who took many of the pictures and the drone video seen in this post.
