Hello, all Northeast Travelers! The 2021 Fall Rally at Apple Island Resort on the shores of beautiful Lake Champlain is now in the books. We had 45 coaches attend, which is our largest rally so far. The weather cooperated, with daytime temperatures around 70 and overnight temperatures in the 50s.
We arrived at Apple Island on Wednesday afternoon to find 12 rigs already there a day ahead of time. The rest of the coaches arrived on Thursday, and we had a meet-and-greet happy hour and campfire, followed by “Pearls of Wisdom”, an interactive discussion about tools and gadgets we use to make traveling in our LTVs easier. A big thanks to Brian and Jackie Shannon for taking the lead on this fun event.
Friday morning’s golf outing seemed doomed following an inch of rain overnight, but with the breezy conditions that followed the rain, everything dried out enough to allow golf to go on. We had four groups tee off in a best ball scramble format – can you believe we had a three-way tie at 1 over par? We had to figure out how to give out four prizes to 12 players.
Friday evening we had a pizza party and campfire. Thanks to the volunteers who helped serve 16 pizzas to over 80 happy campers.
Saturday morning was a bike ride that went for 22 miles and included a ride on the bike ferry. Thank you to Dan and Lynn Dubay, who took the lead on this event. Funny how a couple from Oregon had to show us how to get to Burlington, Vermont, by bike.
Saturday evening we had a fried chicken dinner in the community center. Again, thanks to the volunteers that helped serve the food. Then we had some prize giveaways for the golfers and event organizers. Finally, we had Ed Huff give a slide presentation of his trials and tribulations on a 10,000-mile, 10-week trip from Rhode Island to Oregon and back with his wife, Carol, and their companion dog, Harper. Thank you, Ed, for showing us that things don’t always go as planned but with the right attitude, everything will be okay.
Sunday morning we gathered, with a cup of coffee, to discuss plans for future rallies, and just like that, the Fall Rally was over.
We want to thank Apple Island for their generosity with free golf, lunch, and providing firewood for our evening get-togethers. As always, thank you LTV for your continued support of our club.
Make sure to watch the YouTube video below to see a compilation of photos take by
Laurie Gagnon, Frank Gordon, Richard Grant, Ed Huff, and Cynthia Morris (apologies to any I missed). Thanks to Ed Huff for putting these pictures together for our enjoyment.
Safe travels to all.
