This is an annual event that is on many RVer’s bucket list. It has been on ours for years, and we were finally able to attend. Of course we’ve heard about it over the years but were unprepared for the spectacle of hundreds of balloons in every shape imaginable being inflated and launched each morning…several before dawn!
The LTV Southwest Roadrunners organized a three night rally here. We had ringside seats from the VIP West campground. Getting together with LTV owners we’ve met and several more attending their first gathering was a real bonus. We were about 20 rigs strong and thanks to the planning of Dennis, Darlene, Leonard and Sandy, we were able to all park together which made socializing and gathering for happy hour and shared food much easier.
Although we couldn’t join them, several rigs travelled together from Southern California, and were returning as a group. Traveling caravan style and visiting beautiful places (like Sedona, Mesa Verde, Canyon de Chelly, Grand Canyon, etc.) is great fun and we hope to join them on their next jaunt.
It was quite a sight seeing so many LTV’s in one place. They say that the Balloon Fiesta is the most photographed event in the world. I think the two rows of LTVs and a morning-long parade of colorful hot air balloons overhead added a few thousand more pictures to the total. LTV photo contest…brace yourself for a batch of last minute entries.
If the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta is on your bucket list, I urge you to make the trip. You will be amazed. Plans are already being made to repeat this rally and we will be the first to sign up.
