"If you're a beef lover guy or gal, Harris Ranch is a must-stop. It is located at the intersection of I-5 and State Rt 198 near Coalinga, California, between LA and Sacramento. Harris Ranch is known for their fine beef distributed to better markets throughout central and southern California. Not much to see or do in the area, but well worth the stop anyway for lunch or dinner. They have three different dining venues with somewhat different menus – the bar area (casual), main restaurant, and a more upscale "steakhouse" dining room. Great steaks and other beef selections, plus delicious soups, salads, breads, side dishes, and desserts. They do it all! An added bonus is you can stay overnight for free (no hookups) in the parking lot of their beautiful inn/hotel. Get up in the morning and walk to breakfast for numerous offerings of steak and eggs. I like the Whiskey Smoked Salt and Brown Sugar Rubbed Rib Eye with side of twice-baked potato, caesar salad, and steamed veggies."

"Great story of perseverance by the owners. Estes Park's best, without a doubt. Menu is unique, food was great, and service was an 11 on a 10 scale. Great location near the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. "This is a modest food truck in a town full of very expensive restaurants, but the ingredients were fresh and everything was incredibly flavorful. The owner uses organic ingredients whenever possible and puts real effort into crafting traditional dishes. Plus, the seating area is outdoors in a courtyard that feels miles away from the busy street. The Mezze Vegetarian Sampler was a standout because it’s a way to try five different menu items. The hummus was fluffy and flavorful, the falafel was crunchy on the outside but soft inside, the tabouli was nicely balanced with lemon and parsley, the spanikopita was crunchy and delicate outside and the spinach inside was flavorful and dense without being soggy, but the thing I still dream about was the baba ganouj. It was fluffy and the eggplant had an incredible, slightly smoky, roasted flavor that was offset perfectly by the tart lemon juice."

"The atmosphere is warm and friendly with lots of exposed brick and wood. The waitstaff are wonderful and helpful. And, finally, the food is very good. Their menu changes with the season, but on our last visit in late summer they had a Fennel Pollen Dusted Salmon Filet which was topped with a salsa and served on a bed of seasonal vegetables including zucchini, yellow squash, tomatoes, and onions. The flavors were light, which was perfect for a warm day. Dessert was the most unusual Strawberry Shortcake I’ve had."

The standout was the Big Surf Tuna Bowl with ahi tuna, grains, edamame, and a citrus dressing. It wasn’t a heavy dish, but it paired very well with the beer. After all the eating, the Animas Trail is not far away. It’s a paved path that runs alongside the Animas River through Durango. It’s used by locals as a commuting route, so there is lots of traffic on foot and on bikes but the scenery is beautiful."

"I think it's really fun to be in a quaint little town; I find there are unique shops and exceptional dining. Pêche is a surprising find, recommended by a local. It is stylish and definitely reflects what this area of Colorado is all about: the orchards and wineries. So the food is amazing! Palisade is not just about the crops – it's also a very beautiful setting, where the Colorado River runs through a number of huge mesas and beautiful palisades. About 5 minutes before sunset, the palisades turn bright orange or pink! The Fall Salad is an amazing artistic creation! It's a towering assortment of fresh-picked bounty straight from the gardens to the restaurant. You must have this salad... and we had the grilled ribeye steak with it. And wine. They have two patios, one in front and one in the back. I would describe this restaurant as stylish, creative, and very high-quality fine dining. Make your reservations several days ahead of time."

"Wonderful atmosphere! Completely rebuilt after a devastating kitchen fire, they kept all the charm of the original restaurant, decorated with stained glass windows, antiques, and colorful quilts. Waitresses with long, flowing, southern-style dresses of the 1800s. Multiple boutique shops in the complex. Setting is near a beautiful state park in the “lakes” region of western Kentucky. The 2-inch-thick pork chop is to die for! Juicy, tender, perfectly seasoned and cooked. Although the pork chop is their speciality, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. "One of the hardest restaurants to find (at least for me) is a GOOD breakfast place. Breakfast is generally prepared with mid-range quality and pretty basic food. Not Running Bear! They do an excellent job of preparation of their quality ingredients. Pancakes, for example, are usually mediocre at best. Again, not at Running Bear...they're the best I've had in 50+ years! Excellent coffee (Montana roasted Expresso 81 beans), very fresh eggs, bacon that is unbeatable, and mouth-watering homemade cinnamon rolls! Efficient and very friendly service. Running Bear will also pack a lunch for the road if you'd like."

"The smoked brisket and smoked turkey are moist and super flavorful yet mild; best I have had of both and the craft beer was delicious as well. A great find in a cool old-west town, with plenty of overnight parking for RVs. Recommend the Pick Axe sandwich, a smoked turkey sandwich with bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise. YUMMMM. Not many places with this on the menu."

"The Pioneer Woman Mercantile restaurant is a wonderful place to eat breakfast, lunch, or dinner, or just take bakery items home. All of the food is made from scratch, excellent quality, and above expectations. I am a cook and appreciated the details to excellence from beginning of the meal to the end. The coffee is wonderful, as is the 25-cent iced tea. Breakfast bacon, eggs, and potatoes, biscuits and jam all excellent. Dinner was great as well; dinner salad with homemade dressing was great. The pork chops and sides also superb. Waiter was informed and helpful, even saying they expected guest to share entrée due to large servings. Fried Pork Chops is our favorite of our two visits. The Pecan Sticky Buns are wonderful and you can buy extras in the bakery to take home to freeze for later."

"There are many shopping places in walking distance and a new museum, The Don Johnston Museum, that is enjoyable. A swinging bridge in town that you can walk across is fun. Please check the schedule so you can take a tour of the Lodge on the ranch, where "The Pioneer Woman” show is filmed. A nice drive out (in our Unity), seeing wild horses. It was very beautiful. There is no cost and the tour is hosted by a very nice gentleman who talks about the ranch and answers questions. We parked at Osage Hills State Park, about 14 miles out of town."

"I love stumbling across places like this that are amazing. It looks like a hole in the wall, but what better place to get the best BBQ? We were renting a LTV Unity on this trip and we just pulled in, grabbed some grub, and sat on the benches outside, and it was delicious! We ordered a sampler and several other things (a couple of sides). I don't recall exactly what it was but it was all SO GOOD! "The Alpine Inn is a very deceiving name! It's inside a 100-year-old hotel that used to be a stage coach stop. It serves only one item: steak in 2 sizes, big or small. They are all served with a baked potato and salad that consists of 1/3 head of iceberg lettuce. The dessert menu has over 26 different items on it! This is worth every penny; you get to experience the bar in the lobby while you wait. There's always a line so get there early! We have not been there since 2011, when the big steak was $10. If you don't like steak, go for desserts and whatever you prefer to drink. Just seeing the place is a delight. Enjoy!"

"One of our favorite places to camp while in Tennessee is the DelMonaco Winery in Baxter, which is a Harvest Hosts. This time we found a new restaurant had opened in the winery called Toast! The food is very good, reasonably priced, and served with true Southern hospitality. The coconut grouper with jalapeño jelly... fabulous and the smoked chicken... perfect. The wine served is from the winery and they have a very good Chardonnay we enjoyed with our meal. The coconut chicken with jalapeño jelly is crunchy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside, with a little sweet bite from the jelly. Heaven on earth."

"San Martiño Winery provides some of the best red and white wines I have ever experienced. If you like Spanish-style wines, you will fall in love with what Emilo and Maria have to offer. The winery has cozy indoor seating, but best of all, it has an amazing outdoor area where you can relax and enjoy music, wine, and food. We have been long-time members of the winery, but anyone is welcome. Once in a while, Emilio will cook something special on the main deck and share with those around. They typically have special events that occur with live music and wined paired to delicious food. Since moving to Colorado, this is the one place I miss the most! Recommendation the Tempranillo and Sangiovese red wines – rich aroma and full flavors with a tiny bit of oak – and the Charcuterie – nice mix of cheese, meats, and veggies that blend well with the wine."

"The Bar and Grill is literally on the beach! Facing west across Lake Michigan's Green Bay, the sunset views are absolutely spectacular! For me, it's very reminiscent of watching the sunset from Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville in Key West, Florida. "The entire staff seems to have a good time and will joke around with customers. Live music some nights as well. During Baddeck Days (2 times per year) it will be a long wait, but it’s worth it. Small eat-in area, but many places around to park and eat. The most amazing pizza we ever had and the crust was almost as good as the pizza. The pizza and atmosphere of the people of Baddeck is worth stopping for."

"The Miner’s Seafood Chowder ($12) was the most delicious home-cooked chowder ever to be eaten in a restaurant. It was thick with lobster, cod, clams, etc. in a creamy base. Apparently the recipe is based on the actual seafood chowder that the miners ate."

At the Miner’s Museum, don’t miss taking a thought-provoking and sometimes hilarious mining tour down an original mining tunnel under the Atlantic Ocean! In true Cape Breton hospitality style, we were welcome to stay overnight in the Museum’s parking lot at the ocean’s edge that night."
