August 18-20th was the first Great North East Leisure Travelers Rally. At various times there were 12 Leisure Travel Vans of nearly every model here in the wilds of Vermont at Quechee Gorge. Peter Tourin was here with a 2012 Unity that had a “circular island” layout? I’d never seen this and thought it looked really nice. Some of us were from right here in VT but we had people from NY, PA, ME, NH and Hazel and Norman Lavoy joined us all the way from Saskatchewan! (Well, ok, they were touring QC and found us on Facebook). Donna Daub from LTV also joined us with the new Wonder that she is touring. She is now off to the Hershey Show. It was great to have her with us.
Arriving on Friday Aug 18th, we all got together for a potluck dinner in the game room of the Quechee KOA and were soon swapping tales of camping adventures and mishaps. Saturday allowed folk to go explore the region on their own. Some went to “The Gorge”, some to visit the Raptor Center and others to the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Park. Still others went to King Arthur Flour and various eateries and shops in the area.
Those of you who believed the weather forecast really missed out. In Vermont we say “If you don’t like the weather, wait a minute” Friday was just OK but Saturday and Sunday were absolutely beautiful. The kinds of days to be treasured here in the rainy Northeast.

We all got back together Saturday evening for a pizza party. Locally made pizza that even the NY’ers allowed was pretty darned good!!At the pizza party the group unanimously agreed to meet again next year in Maine. Julie Girard “volunteered” to study the area and come up with a suggested spot for our next meeting. I believe Bob Holtzman and Deanna Johnson were also headed up to Maine and might report back.
This was a great weekend with new friends and it was nice to see the different vans and layouts. I look forward seeing more of you at the 2018 Rally in Maine!!
