Great Northeast Travelers 2024 Spring Rally

The Great Northeast Travelers held their 2024 spring rally from May 28 – 31. It’s been two years since our group rallied at Apple Island RV Resort in South Hero, Vermont, and we are so glad we returned to this beautiful RV resort. We had 53 LTVs attending from 13 states and the province of Nova Scotia. Of the 100 members attending, over 40 were first-timers.

The Rally began on Tuesday, but eight coaches showed up on Monday. Seeing all the LTVs roll in and dominate the landscape at Apple Island Resort is great fun. The weather was perfect for our rally; the daytime temps were in the 60s and 70s.

On Tuesday evening, we all got together in the community building for a meet-and-greet with potluck-style appetizers. I couldn’t believe how much food there was.

It was so much fun meeting all the first-timers and catching up with others we hadn’t seen in a while. Later that evening, we had a group campfire. Some folks don’t care for sitting around a fire swapping stories and sometimes dealing with the smoke, but we had over 30 show up to enjoy the great outdoors.

Wednesday morning, Michaela Greco taught a yoga session.

After yoga, we gathered at the community building for a muffin breakfast, and then we went outside for the group photo. Our photographer, Laurie, wanted to take the group shot with her drone. It was challenging due to the stiff breeze coming off Lake Champlain, but Laurie was determined and eventually got it done. Thank you, Laurie.

That afternoon, we had a group bike ride. 36 riders headed out on what was a beautiful day, and amazingly, 36 riders returned safely, especially considering that they stopped at a winery and a brewery in their travels. Special thanks to the leaders, Mark and Mary Hickman and Leigh and Tom Mundhenk. Wonderful job.

It was time for our traditional pizza party in the community building on Wednesday evening.

Following that, Tam Benjamin and Lisa Cavanagh led a discussion on how to take better photos. This was a very informative and fun discussion. Thank you, Tam and Lisa.

Again, on Thursday morning, yoga was held in the community building, and at the same time, four groups were teeing off in a best-ball 9-hole scramble at the Apple Island Resort golf course. It was a beautiful day to play some golf, and it was great fun.

Later, we had an LTV open house where attendees were invited to see other floorplans and modifications; it was a good time for socializing. This year, we put in a new wrinkle, allowing members to sell any RV-related gear during the open house.

The food truck showed up Thursday evening to feed all the hungry campers. Seeing how fast the food truck crew could feed nearly 100 attendees was amazing.

Following dinner, everyone got together for the final gathering in the community building. Brian Shannon led a group discussion about what he called pearls of wisdom. Attendees share tips and tricks that they use to make traveling in their LTV easier.

Finally, we had prize giveaways; thank you to Leisure Travel Vans for providing some great stuff to give the attendees.

Friday morning, attendees slowly packed up and hit the road. Checkout was 11:00 am, but it was nearly noon before they finally said goodbye to everyone.

We would like to thank the management team at Apple Island for all their help, especially Karen and Kathy. You guys are amazing. With all the great feedback from those attending, we will definitely come back again.
