The Cabot Trail is considered one of the world’s most scenic destinations, with stunning ocean vistas, old-growth forests, prehistoric rock scarred by glaciers, and the mysterious and breathtaking Cape Breton Highlands. The trail starts near the French village of Cheticamp on the western side of Cape Breton Island and heads north into Cape Breton Highlands National Park along the coast of the Gulf of St Lawrence, where scenic lookouts for photo taking and whale watching are found all along a well-maintained road. After Cape North, the trail turns east towards the picturesque fishing village of Neils Harbour and on to Ingonish. The southern end of your tour will take you through the village of Baddeck, Canadian home of Alexander Graham Bell.

Scenic Drive Tips

Participate in the festivals, special musical events, ceilidhs, and kitchen parties that happen all around the Cabot Trail. To replenish yourself, enjoy fabulous local seafood at great restaurants. Along the way, look for Groovy Goat Farm and Soap Company in Ingonish, traditional hand-crafted hooked rugs in Chéticamp (follow the signs – you might wind up in someone’s kitchen!), The Dancing Goat Bakery and Café, and several world-class golf courses. Visit the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site in Baddeck. Walk the beautiful and famous Skyline Trail.
