Cosmic Campground is located in Gila National Forest and was the first designated International Dark Sky Sanctuary in the Northern Hemisphere.  The nearest significant source of artificial light is more than 40 miles away! There is a hard-surface observing area with four pads for telescopes. Arrive in daylight for a 360-degree view of the setting sun, then the planets and stars after nightfall. The Milky Way crowns the mountains of the Gila Wilderness.

RVer Tips

No parking on the observation/telescope pads or camp fires on observation pads. It is recommend to arrive before dark so that your headlights won’t distort your night vision, and to use a red filter over your flashlight lens. The campground has minimal site amenities and minimal shade available.
