Take a drive through cowboy country and the foothills west of Calgary into Kananaskis Country, passing through the top of the mountains with no commercial traffic. Start where Alberta 22 leaves Highway 1, travelling south towards Turner Valley. Just before Longview, turn west on Highway 40 and head for the mountains.

Scenic Drive Tips

This road is open June 15 until December 1. There are many beautiful rest areas and nice little towns along the way. Chuckwagon Café in Turner Valley is a must-stop for lunch – the owner raises his own beef.
