The Western Canada Sunsetters 2020 Rally took place north of Kelowna, BC, at Wood Lake RV Park and Marina, from September 14 to 17.

Back in February of 2020, we had 40 vans booked into this rally and another 20 vans on a waiting list. Then the COVID-19 pandemic came, and we had to cancel all activities related to this rally. The RV Park was very co-operative and changed their policy to allow everyone who had originally booked to get a full refund, provided they notified the Park 24 hours before their scheduled arrival date.

When the dates actually came about, nine vans kept their booking and did arrive to enjoy some time together in spite of the very severe smoke conditions caused by the fires in the northwest USA. We were only allowed to have six people gathering at a time in the RV Park, and we gladly adhered to this rule. The clubhouse was also closed, and all of the events and tours that were originally planned were cancelled. That being said, most of us had a good visit. Some enjoyed cycling the beautiful rail trail, others walked, read, shopped, or just visited in small groups.

On Wednesday evening, we arranged to get together at Turtle Bay Pub, which was right next to the RV Park. Eight of our nine couples participated. The restaurant was large enough to accommodate us with tables of four and six people properly spaced. We enjoyed some fellowship, a few pints, and a lovely meal. It was a most enjoyable evening. Thanks go out to our Chapter and to Triple E, who helped subsidize part of the cost of the food.

We are considering rescheduling a rally at Wood Lake RV Park and Marina in 2021, as we found the RV Park and the amenities in the immediate area to be very nice. Stay tuned.
