Description and Tips
The Elliott Coues Nature Trail is a loop through the maritime forest and marsh area around the eastern edge of Bogue Banks, an island in the southern outer banks of North Carolina. The trail is part of the 385 acre Fort Macon State Park and can be accessed from the park’s beach access parking lot or the Fort museum parking lot. The trail is sandy but well maintained with mulch as needed to prevent erosion. The small hills allow for a lovely views of Beaufort Inlet, Bogue Sound, and the Atlantic Ocean.
