Trail Start and End Details
The Firecracker 50 is an annual mountain bike (MTB) race in Summit County, originating at and finishing in Breckenridge, Colorado. Although the entire length traverses 50 miles, it’s easy to cut sections off the route and simply enjoy the best parts. The recommendation is to start and finish at Carter Park in Breckenridge, climbing up Boreas Pass, and hitting the Aspen Alley, Sallie Barber, Barney Ford, and Pinball Alley parts of the route.
Description and Tips
This trail is largely easy to intermediate (with elevation gain), with a few more technical portions that can easily be walked if needed. The views are indicative of Colorado, and the route is a mix of gravel jeep roads (climbing), a bit of root/rock trails, and fast single-track toward the end. Summit County is a mountain biker’s paradise, and this route is definitely prime. There are no amenities or services on route – this is backcountry terrain. Pack enough water, food, and supplies to hold you over in case flats or gear maintenance occurs. Breckenridge offers a host of fun things to do before and after your ride.
