The winning story from the 2018 Calendar Photo Contest by Guy Owen
After driving for hours from Salt Lake City, my nephew and I found ourselves in the middle of nowhere in Howe, Idaho – looking for a place to park so we could enjoy the Solar Eclipse of 2017.
I had plotted the Path of Totality on our map the night before — then picked the most-isolated spot away from every city. This was it!
On the morning of August 21st, 2017, we had a mountain range behind us to the West, and open plains to the East. This was the moment the Sun peeked over the horizon, starting its ascent to meet up with the Moon!
During the event, ground mice popped up to feed at our feet, thinking it was dusk. We actually had to be careful not to step on them. They didn’t seem to know we were there.
