Activities

Train Rides

  • Alberta Prairie Railway Excursions: Embark on a captivating and nostalgic journey aboard the Alberta Prairie Railway Excursions. This novel and enchanting mode of transport offers a unique opportunity to delve into the region’s rich history and admire the picturesque landscapes of the prairies. As the train glides through the rolling hills, passengers are treated to panoramic views, showcasing the region’s natural beauty. Historical landmarks come alive as the train passes, providing a glimpse into the past. The Alberta Prairie Railway Excursions offers a delightful blend of history, nature, and charm, making it an unforgettable experience for all. The dinner excursion train includes a delicious meal served in Big Valley. The meal is typically a hearty roast beef or steak accompanied by bread, salad, vegetable side dishes, and dessert. After dinner, passengers have time to explore the shops and museums in town before re-boarding the train to enjoy the return to the campground. On board, passengers can enjoy the views from the observation car or relax in one of the assigned seating lounge cars. Participants interested in taking the Dinner Train Journey should contact Alberta Prairie Railway Excursions directly at 1-800-282-3994 (Canada) or 1-403-742-2811 to purchase tickets for the journey. Indicate that the booking is for the September 14 train excursion and you are part of the LTV Group. Booking by July 15th ensures that we are seated together. Please note that even though the Alberta Prairie Steam Trains may sometimes accommodate passengers without reservations, they tend to sell out. Therefore, making a reservation is the most reliable way to guarantee seating. Tickets are priced at $140 + GST per person and include the journey and a delicious dinner. For more details on the train excursion, please click here.
  • The Prairie Sunset Dinner Train: This 5-hour train ride departs in the afternoon and includes a delicious dinner and live entertainment.

Museum Tours

The Stettler Museum and Visitor Centre offers a variety of tours, including a tour of the town’s historic downtown district. The museum also exhibits the town’s history, culture, and natural history.

Biking

Stettler has several paved and unpaved bike paths that are ideal for exploring the area.

Hiking

There are plenty of great trails to enjoy in and around Stettler. You can pick up a trail map at the Stettler Regional Board of Trade or the Town of Stettler office.

Walking

Explore the Historic Downtown District within walking distance from the campground.

The Facility

Our chosen campsite is in a beautiful prairie setting with plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the outdoors. The unique town of Stettler is within easy walking distance from the campsite. The campground has several amenities, including washrooms, a shower house, laundry facilities, a camp store, an indoor-outdoor meeting facility with BBQ, a commercial indoor kitchen and dining space, and a sizeable outdoor group firepit. A bonus to this location is that there is onsite boarding for the Alberta Prairie Railway Excursion right from the campsite.

The group camping area provides multiple shared water sources and a sewer dump station for campers’ convenience. However, individual hookups are unavailable. Limited power is accessible within the site and can accommodate some sharing of the available power. To utilize this limited power, campers must bring their adapters and power cords, preferably extended lengths, to ensure a power source can be reached. Furthermore, the group site features a private building with kitchen facilities and dining tables and chairs. This space would be for our private use for our stay. Adjacent to this building is a spacious and secluded fire pit area, perfect for campfires and creating memorable moments under the stars.

For $140, participants will enjoy four nights of group camping at the Prairie Junction RV Resort and gain access to the rally’s festivities. For the rally booking form, click here.

Please note: Those traveling with dogs will be responsible for paying a fee of $10 per dog per day, which should be paid directly to the Prairie Junction RV park upon arrival.

We look forward to our fall rally, the first Western Sunsetters event to be held over a weekend, making this rally accessible to more members. We hope to see you there!
