The Earthmate app is free when you buy a Garmin Inreach Explorer satellite communicator. This app pairs with the Explorer to allow for 2-way texting communication when you are in a remote location without cell service. The Explorer costs about $550 CAD and requires a monthly subscription to the Iridium satellite network. Subscription costs from $40 to $80 CAD per month but can be suspended when not tracking. Explorer also has GPS tracking and SOS emergency button to initiate rescue in an emergency with 2-way communication and expert medical support via a coordination center in Houston, Texas.
