Highway 276 follows the Davidson River through the Pisgah National Forest on a winding road that rises to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The hardwood forest provides shade in the summer and great colors in the fall. It is a worthwhile drive any time of the year!
Scenic Drive Tips
Highlights of this drive include a nice Visitor Center, Pisgah Stables, Looking Glass Falls, Sliding Rock, Cradle of Forestry in America Heritage Site, multiple picnic spots, and a fish hatchery. There are quite a few hiking trailheads off of the highway or near it, including the Looking Glass Rock trail. Davidson River Campground is near the beginning of the drive. Pisgah Inn – a beautiful stop offering great meals and rooms with views – is just a few miles south of the terminus on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The beginning of the drive is near the pretty mountain town of Brevard.
