Outstanding well-kept facility in New Mexico ski country with paved, level sites and lots of amenities. These include a fire-pit, hot tub, pool, pickleball, and country club access. While there, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial (within sight of the resort) is a must see.

This is a lovely, well kept campground about 30 minutes away from Portland. This is where we stay when we want to play in the city for a few days.

The east campground has level, paved RV sites. The west campground is more established and prettier, but the sites are smaller, and it can be a challenge to get in and out.

Bayfield Riverside RV Campground features sites that are spread out, spacious, surrounded by trees, and most right on a stream or one of the ponds. The campground is peacefully quiet with nice amenities like showers, laundry, and a small store.

Try the spots on the creek right across from the common facilities, which are very accessible but still private and quiet.

Bayfield Riverside RV Campground

Smallish with nicely spaced spots but the best is that it's 100 feet to a fabulous 7 mile Oregon beach. Oregon State Parks are the best!

Located at the southern end of San Diego Bay, this park's location is near almost everything San Diego has to offer. Landscaping at the park makes it one of the best I've been to. And it's closeness to a great bike trail tops it off for a great place for snowbirders. They had everything you would need. Immaculate, privacy hedging, store, restaurant, entertainment, picnic areas, doggy shower facilities, gateway to the neighboring San Diego Bay, marina and park. I wanted to move in!

This park is split into multiple sections, this is for the Fruita section. Its a beautiful setting and close to the Colorado National Monument. Located near the wine and fruit orchards. Great for mountain biking.

Beautifully tucked away location before ascending over Cottonwood Pass which is knock out gorgeous! Colorado at its best! Sites are all new, private, large, flat, with nice gravel pads. Each has a great picnic table, fire ring, and light post. Great hiking around the lake and mountain biking.

It's Mother Nature at it's finest, in the Big Horn Mountains with deer and moose walking through the campground amid the Lodgepole Pines. Quiet, peaceful, and you can hear the waters of the crystal clear South Tongue River singing their song. The river was just across the road from our site. Dead Swede Campground is located off Forest Road 26 just off the Bighorn Scenic Byway (U.S. Highway 14) near the Burgess Overlook and Woodrock areas at an elevation of 8,400 feet.

We were in site #19. Spacious, level, with beautiful huge lodgepole pines all around and beautiful rock formations as well. Site had picnic table, fire ring, and grill. We took our bikes and enjoying riding on the off road vehicle trails.

Off-road vehicle trails, scenic jeep roads, hiking, fishing and canoeing are available in the surrounding area. Diverse hikes vary from loop trails to treks along creeks and over mountain peaks; many trails access the Cloud Peak Wilderness. Shell Falls Visitor Center, at the overlook of Shell Falls, is about 21 miles southwest. Beautiful waterfall! The Red Gulch Dinosaur Tracksite, near the town of Shell, is the largest of its kind in the state and one of only a few in the world from the Middle Jurassic Period. The tracks found here are approximately 167 million years old.

This is a US Forest Service campground in the Rock Creek Canyon area of the Inyo National Forest, Bishop, CA. East Fork Camp is at 9,000 ft and runs along Rock Creek. This is one of the most beautiful areas of the Eastern Sierra with hiking at Mosquito Flat, fishing in the creek and in Rock Creek Lake. Trail rides available at the pack station.

Very easy to access, beautifully kept, very quiet, sites easily accessed. Incredibly beautiful surroundings, peaceful, serene, pet friendly. Great sites and amenities such as tennis courts, pools, and all sorts of activities and evening get togethers.

For dry camping, this is about as good as it gets. It's located in an old growth forest half an hour from Crater Lake. Nearly every site backs onto the Rogue River. One of the most beautiful places we've ever stayed.

They all look good the closer you can get to the lake the better. These site are all dry with no hook ups. There is easy access to a dump station and a water fill station.

Going to the Sun Highway, you'll have to rent a car which you can do very close by. Hike to Hidden Lake at Logan Pass Visitor Center or along Lake McDonald. Bring your bear spray keep it with you on all your hikes. Practice a clean campsite with no food stored outside. The park rangers will ticket you if you don't.

A beautiful mountain lake with great fishing, boating, swimming and hiking. The views in the area are spectacular. Located just outside the city limits of the mountain town of Show Low, AZ. The campground is kept immaculate nestled in old forest tall pines with plenty of shade and includes cement slabs with full hookups for RVs. Plenty of roomy campsites to spread out on as well with a cool mountain breeze.

Haven't stayed at a campsite at Fool Hollow that I didn't enjoy, you can't go wrong with any of the sites available.

White Mountains in eastern Arizona are a must for everyone to see. About 75 miles east of Fool Hollow is Lyman Lake State Park on the border with New Mexico, another hidden gem that I would highly recommend.

First of all, it's on Whidbey Island facing the sound and jut around the corner from Ebey's Prairie. Incredible scenery. Great walking and biking on back country roads. Good artisan food in Coupeville. Two minute walk to the Port Townsend Ferry for a quick day trip over to the Olympic peninsula. Half the sites have power and water. Unfortunately, 100% reservable, so reservations are necessary on summer weekends.

Fort Stevens was used as a military location and the historic bunkers remain as a place for kids and families to explore. It is close to the beach and the mouth of the beautiful Columbia river. Historical, near ocean, beach, wooded.

From Panorama Drive a mile from the state park entrance the view of the Continental Divide is 100 miles on a clear day! This is the nicest maintained campground I have ever seen. Be warned that the road from Interstate 70 (Exit 243) through Black Hawk is quite windy and slow.

Beautiful setting in a canyon above a very beautiful desert. Everywhere around you there are towering red rocks hundreds of feet high standing alone by themselves as if fashioned in clay by giant hands.

Visit the John Wayne museum on the property for a look back to the early days of western movies. John got his start here. This is a favorite for Oregonians. Park is atop a ridge overlooking a beautiful little cove with a wind protected beach (if it is a north wind). The town of Brookings with creature comforts is 2 miles away. Birding, biking and hikes.

It's a wildlife study area and the campground on the headwaters of the Arkansas River is quite distinctive and unique. Brown's Canyon is known for being a hotbed of whitewater rafting on the Arkansas, which has carved out a stunning rocky space. The camp sites are "bookdocking" sites and are craftily constructed out of small boulders. The RV sites are flat and the accompanying tent pads are flat and soft, as well.

I would recommend Site 7 for views of the river and Site 13 for privacy and seclusion.

There are several quite nice private campgrounds nearby on the state highway to Buena Vista. The Front Range is on the right going north, and the 13 peaks are on the left. The weather in this "bowl" is spoken about as southern California influenced as it is much less snow and milder seasons that other parts of Colorado.

It's a gated facility located on the Colorado River with many amenities: fishing, swimming, boating, hiking, swimming pool, a small par 3 golf course, restaurant, great views. It's located about a half hour easy drive from Yuma so it's usually quiet and peaceful. The sites are terraced so many have great views of the river or outback.

Either of the beach areas or anywhere in D section is our first choice but most any site is good.

Woodland setting near the beautiful Oregon Coast; numerous recreational opportunities: biking/hiking trails; Lake Cleawox and Woahink Lake (swimming, kayaking, canoeing, boat rentals), and dunes with access to all from within the park.

H loop sites are more open with sun, but less private and has ATV access for months of October-April. B and C loop areas get some highway noise; main access road through the park has a bit of traffic, but access loops are less busy; most sites are spacious and private, separated by trees and huckleberry bushes; some sites have electric/water while there are many tent/RV sites without power, but suitable for smaller RVs; many park rangers and camp hosts are available and very friendly; large playground and informational welcome center.

RV parks in the LA/Malibu area are rare in numbers but this campground is also unique in the beautiful panoramic ocean view and dramatic sunsets. The park sites are terraced into the side of a mountain creating a dramatic view. Add to that the incredible California plants and flowers and what else could you ask for. While the beach is viewable it is just a short walk across Hwy 1. Summer rates are outrageous but the winter rates are tolerable.

This is the camping area in Mesa Verde National Park. While it would be very busy during the middle of the summer, spring and fall shoulder season is spectacular. Mesa Verde should be on everyone's bucket list and the campground is the only place to stay. Two days at the park is a minimum and just doing a one day "drive by" viewing of the ruins at the park should be outlawed.

Beautiful secluded location on the rugged Oregon Coast. Large well constructed RV pads. It's a few miles from the town of Newport, Oregon, with lots to see and do, and plenty of eating options. The Yaquina Head lighthouse views are fantastic.

Beautiful resort with large, level lots, helpful staff, and nearly every activity and pastime imaginable. We particularly enjoy the pickleball program (32 courts), dog parks (including agility) and poker (Texas or Omaha Hold'em almost every night). Also has a Par 3 golf course, lawn bowling, tennis, pottery and stained glass studio.

Nice setting on Puget Sound near the city of Port Townsend. It's an easy walk into town which is very charming and has lots of Victorian buildings and history. Great shopping and plenty of good eating spots and coffee house. The ferry to various San Juan Islands, and Seattle is close by, and will carry you and your RV to all the fun. You can ride in your RV on the ferry (including pets).

They are all very near the water, and marina. Lots of activity to watch all day long.

Small County Park with pond and nearby hiking and opportunities to explore in the Rogue-Siskiyou National Forest and the beautiful S. Fork of the Coquille River. Quiet and well maintained. There is a tennis court, basketball court, small playground and fishing/non-motorized boating in the pond. All 30 sites have electric/water with 10 more overflow sites in the parking lot, also with hookups. Bathroom and shower facility is nearby; park ranger on site as well as a camp host. Restaurant and groceries within a 1/2 mile in the small town of Powers as well as a USFS Ranger Office for information.

Most sites offer shade and some privacy. Site #12 has the best view of the pond while sites #2-11 offer more shelter and shade.

Beautifully kept campground. Quiet hours are between 10PM and 6AM. They are pet friendly and have a dog run. We parked our RV at the campground and were able to walk to restaurants, stores and trailheads.

All of the sites are exceptional. They also have laundry facilities. It is rather hilly, so I don't recommend bringing bicycles. Be sure to bring good walking shoes or hiking boots.

It is on the Santa Barbara coast with warm waters and not far north of the town of Santa Barbara.

Campground Tips

Any of the campsites near the beach loop are great. Unity's fit well under the 27' limit. No big buses here. Any of the other State Beaches along this coast are beautiful also.

Take a ride up the coast toward Lompoc to Jalama Beach. It is 12 miles off the highway, but is beautiful if the wind does come up. If it does, you might get a kite surfer and bird shot like I did.

Quiet, but only several miles to the famous Carmel white sand beach. I get up early and head to the beach and have coffee, then walk the dog friendly beach before walking up into town for shopping with my wife, Lolly.

Nice facilities with beautiful views of Sawtooth Mountains and Red Fish Lake. You drive through some beautiful country to get here. The site is at the lake and spots are paved along with the picnic area. Half off with senior pass. All this for $10!

There are other camping areas this one is the furthest to the south. All sites are first-come, first-serve. I think it was H14. Towards the end of the campground. Enough sun to charge the solar panels.

Very well run, friendly and helpful personnel, great amenities such as pool and spa, clubhouse with full kitchen, lounge area, BBQ, pool table, big screen TV with DIRECTV, wide variety of food, 4 dog runs, excellent shower facilities, adjacent to marina, and lots of shopping, eateries and movie theatre nearby. The WiFi speeds are incredible here–best I've ever experienced.

Access to Umpqua River Trail via riverside trail to Susan Creek day use and Tioga Bridge; many waterfall hikes along the Umpqua Highway 138 (link below); scenic 1.5 hour drive to the North Entrance of Crater Lake; if you want to eat out, try Munchies at Glide, 15 miles west of Susan Creek.

Close to the strip if you are walking, but also only 2 or 3 miles from Fremont Street section of Las Vegas. Security 24x7 and they are improving the facilities every time we visit.

It's my favorite because it's just beautiful. It's on the Tioga lake at almost 10,000 feet elevation overlooking Mt. Dana, which is 13,057 feet. See snow covered caps most of the time. Many hikes around. No hook-ups, no cell or wi-fi, which I love!

Two trails to Mt. Dana, hike to Bennettville, Shell Lake, Mine Lake, Fantail Lake, Spuller Lake, then near Saddlebag Lake, 20 Lakes Basin hike is wonderful! Hike around Tioga Lake, and Saddlebag Lake, fishing in these lakes . . . there is so much to do and it's less than a mile from the East entrance of the Yosemite National Park. I go two to three times a year from San Diego.

Paved sites away from the village, but within walking distance to a great supermarket. Shuttle busses leave from the RV park to all sites along the Canyon rim.

Located on one of the most picturesque and productive trout streams of the western U.S., Henrys Fork of the Snake River. It's been my favorite since I began coming to the west as a tent camper in 1974.

Campground Tips

This is a very popular location along the river with a limited number of sites. If you cannot get in, there are others in the area, including Flat Rock and Box Canyon campgrounds.

See Big Spring and Mesa Falls. Good restaurants at Island Park Lodge. This is only 20 miles or so south of West Yellowstone, Montana, on the western edge of the park.

This park was so cool. Lots of cacti and plenty of room between campsites. Only 20 minutes to Sloan Park (home of the Chicago Cubs spring training). It was quiet. We stayed during spring training–it was so nice because we were going against traffic, so we got there in no time. We would definitely go back!

It is right on the banks of the Salmon river with very nice rolling hills all around. The washrooms and showers are the best I have ever seen. On Fridays, they host a pot-luck meet and greet which was very friendly and fun.

Pristinely clean and well-kept. It's on the Columbia River and is just beautiful. Although it's a small campground it has a lot of amenities with many places to visit in the area.

Located in Paradise Valley on the banks of the Yellowstone River. Awesome scenery, fishing, and wildlife. Easy access to Yellowstone Park and close to Livingston, Montana for supplies, etc. Sites are spacious. Good water pressure. The owners and employees are fabulous. The little shop at the park actually has nice mementos and gifts to buy.

Get a site that backs up to the Yellowstone River.

It is up and away from the crowded visitors center, yet regular free buses stop a block from the campsite to take you all over the park. You are close to trail heads that lead to beautiful waterfalls and in camp, you look up to Half Dome.
